During Scottish week the children tried haggis, porridge, oatcakes and cheese and shortbread.
The children really enjoy getting involved in cooking and baking. Sometimes the children bake items to take home. It's always nice to make a present you can eat to celebrate Christmas, Easter or Valentine's Day.
We find out about the ingredients we are using and how they change when we mix them. We weigh, measure, stir, roll and cut out using a variety of different equipment. At Christmas we made salt dough ornaments and a variety of edible gifts. We also made scones for the parents to eat at the keyworker meetings.
We also talk about the kinds of foods we eat when we are celebrating different festivals. We tried a variety of foods during our Burns celebration and for Chinese New Year. The children helped to make a stir fry for snack. They were very careful using the knives and had a go at picking things up with chopsticks!
The children helped to decorate the tables and set up the snack. The stir fry looked great and the children certainly enjoyed trying all the different foods especially the noodles and prawn crackers.
