Acid Rain Experiment

Acid Rain Experiment

Acid Rain Experiment

To demonstrate the harmful effects acid rain can have on trees we conduced a scientific experiment. We put two tubs of cress in separate bags and sealed one of them. To make it a fair experiment we changed one variable – we added a cup of campden tablet solution to the bag.

The experiment was supposed to show effects in a couple of hours but ours didn’t! We added another campden tablet and waited overnight. We still saw no change. After adding another 4 campden tablets, we left them for a few days. By Thursday there was a definite difference in the colour (and health) of the tubs of cress. Can you guess which one is which?

This experiment has demonstrated how the environment that trees and plants are living in can have an effect on their health.

Acid rain can also have a harmful effect on buildings, plant life, farming productivity and fish.
