Social Studies – People Who Help Us in Our Community.

As part of our ‘People Who Help Us in Our Community’ topic and ‘World of Work Week,’ Primary 2b had a visit from PC John from Milngavie Police Station. PC John told the children all about the work that he does in our community and even let some of the children try on his equipment including handcuffs and police uniform! PC John told the boys and girls about the importance of knowing how to make an emergency call and how to stay safe. The children also had the opportunity to ask lots of interesting questions and learned a lot from the answers that were given.

As well as having a visit from the Police, Primary 2b organised a school visit to Milngavie Fire Station. At the fire station, the children learned about the job of a fire-fighter. They got the chance to explore the station and see the tools/equipment that fire-fighters use. We even saw Callum the fire-fighter slide down the fireman’s pole! After that, the children tried their hand at spraying water from the hose and got to go inside the fire engine. The children thoroughly enjoyed the visit and have since been working in class on writing about their experiences and what they have learned. Below is a selection of photos taken during our visits, and as you will see, we had a great time!
