Term 2 - What we are learning.

Term 2 - What we are learning.

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year! The children certainly had lots of exciting stories to tell! Just like last term here is a summary of what we will be covering in Term 2.

P.E Days – will continue to be on a Monday and Thursday. Please ensure all items of clothing are labelled to allow lost property to be returned to its owner. Girls should remember to bring a hair bobble in and if they could remember not to wear earrings on P.E days.

Your child will be taught many new spelling patterns over the term and the homework will reinforce these. Please copy out words three times each and then write a sentence for each word. Please remind your child to underline the spelling word with a ruler and remember full stops, capital letters and neat joined-up handwriting. Please refer to note in homework jotter for follow up activities.

Maths homework will also be issued on a regular basis. It will be issued on a Monday and collected on a Friday.  The maths homework will reinforce concepts that have been covered this year. Your child may also be asked to practise their times tables.

Over the next 4 weeks pupils will also be asked to undertake activities in the ‘Learning at Home’ grid. The bold ones are the only compulsory ones – although of course your child can do as many of these as they wish.

Useful things to bring

Please can your child bring the following to school:

-          At least 1 sharp pencil

-          A pencil sharpener and rubber

We will be continuing to look at creating and answering a variety of questions, how to summarise a text and we will also be looking at clarifying the meanings of words by looking at the context and using a dictionary.

We will be continuing to have a weekly writing lesson, which will focus on poety and often be linked to our ‘Social Studies’ topic. Your child will get the opportunity to write personal, imaginative and functional pieces of text as well as writers craft.
