Term 2 in P1/2

 Numeracy and Mathematics

P1

This term we will be learning addition facts to 10. We will learn to order and sequence numbers to 20 and how to count sets up to 20. In Measure, we will be learning to use vocabulary like  tall, short, long, thick and thin etc. Our focus in Information Handling will be learning to organise and display data using simple graphs like pictograms. We will be learning how to use tally marks and answer simple questions about data.

P2

Our Numeracy focus will be learning strategies to add and subtract within 20 and beyond. We will consolidate our skills in using numbers to 100 and place value. In Information Handling we will be conducting surveys, constructing block graphs, using venn diagrams and asking and answering simple sentences about data. In Measure we will be using non standard units to compare length, weight and volume.

 

Literacy

P1

We will continue to apply our knowledge of sounds to develop our Reading and Writing. We will enjoy a wide variety of texts from Bug Club which will provide opportunities for discussion, sequencing activities, prediction, paired reading and simple written comprehension tasks. The Bug Club books continue to reinforce phonics taught and simple common words. In Writing we will be developing our sentences by using the connective 'because'. We will begin to write a simple diary, look at features of fairy tales and traditional stories and learn about fiction and non-fiction texts.

P2

In Literacy we will continue to develop our knowledge of phonics to develop fluency in Reading. We will learn about the features of fiction and non-fiction texts and use this knowledge to create our own non-fiction books. In Writing we will begin to use  a simple plan to help structure our stories and use simple word banks and dictionaries to help us become more independent writers. We will begin simple grammar activities, looking at alphabetical order, nouns and adjectives and punctuation.

 

We will work together to share favourite stories, develop knowledge of reading tools through big book texts and celebrate World Book Day. 

 

Our Social Studies topic this term is Crannogs. We will have opportunities to carry out research, consider events in time, make models and learn through role play. 

Our Cultural focus will be Scotland, which will include a Scots Assembly to share our learning and also a celebration of all things Chinese during Chinese New Year.

In Science we will be learning about Materials and our RME focus is Festivals.

Learning in Health and Wellbeing will focus on healthy eating, safety in the home and awareness of feelings through PATHS activities. In P.E we will develop our skills in dance and gymnastics. P.E days are Tuesdays and Fridays (P1 children have SFA coaching on Thursdays also ).

We have a very busy term ahead, with a wide variety of learning experiences to look forward to. The effort and enthusiasm shown by the children will allow us to work together to aim high and achieve our goals.
