WW2 TRIP

As part of our WW2 topic we took a step back in time and visited the Scotland Street Museum and the People’s Palace. We made our way to Scotland Street Museum where we took part in a re-enactment of a WW2 classroom. We had Mrs James who was our very scary teacher. She was extremely strict and the majority of the class were terrified, particularly when she whacked her belt on the desk! We used slates and chalks to help us with our mental arithmetic and ink and nibbed pens to help us with our handwriting. We had our lunch there and then made our way to the People’s Palace.

Our guide at the People’s Palace was Laura and she gave us lots of interesting facts about life during WW2. We were given a worksheet to complete whilst we looked around the museum and Laura demonstrated to us, in the Buttercup Dairy, just how little they had to eat during rationing! It was an amazing experience, but it made us very grateful that we live in 2017 and not the 1940’s!
