Welcome to P6!

Welcome to P6!

 Welcome to Primary 6!

Firstly, I would like to introduce myself as your child’s class teacher for this year. My name is Ms. Cunniffe and I’m delighted to join the staff and wonderful children at Clober.

I would like to provide you with some important information regarding our class routines:

Class charter:

Since starting Primary 6, we have been working on our Rights Respecting School topic. This is helping to establish a class charter and routines. We are also working on fire safety and updating our life saving skills with the Heartstart program.

PE

PE is on Mondays and Thursdays. Please remember to remove jewellery on these days.

Homework

Homework in Primary 6 will support our learning in class. It will be issued on a Monday and due in Friday morning.

Spelling homework

Children will be given their spelling words at the start of each new week. At the start of the year they will be given an active spelling grid with ideas for spelling activities that could be carried out each night in order for them to prepare for their Friday spelling assessment.  They may wish to practice verbally or use their homework jotter to record their learning – the choice is theirs!

Numeracy homework:

One piece of numeracy homework will be issued each week on a Monday—this is to be completed and handed in by Friday.

Other activity

One other activity will be issued that relates to current affairs or the Topic we are studying, for example preparing a presentation or short talk.  More than one week may be given to complete this type of task.

Here are some ideas of things to do to help assist your child’s learning.

·         Revise times tables frequently.

·         Go over their spelling words.

·         Read with your child –this could be their chosen novel of any genre, comic books, graphic novels, a newspaper article etc.; anything they find interesting and engaging!

Many internet websites will support your child’s learning. The BBC bitesize is particularly good and is now matched to the Scottish Curriculum:

Please look out for regular website updates in order to see what we have been doing.

I am really looking forward to a great year with Primary 6!
