Welcome to Primary 6!

Welcome to Primary 6!

Welcome to Primary 6 with Mrs O’Donnell!

Since starting Primary 6 we are working on our Rights Respecting School topic. This is helping to establish a class charter and routines. We are also working on Fire drills, Internet safety and the Heartstart program.

Homework in Primary 6 will be for Language and Maths. This will match the areas we have been focusing on in school. Language will consist of spelling and reading. Reading will be given in line with the Reciprocal Reading novel so may be given on different days in order to tie in with work being covered in school. It may also include writing summaries or predictions in line with the story being read. Maths homework will support work being undertaken within school. Social Studies will also be issued throughout the year and this will often be in the form of research.

Here are some ideas of things to do to help assist your child’s learning.

· Revise times tables frequently.

· Go over their spelling words.

· Read together their reading book, personal choice or even a short paragraph from the newspaper!

Many internet websites will support your child’s learning. The BBC bitesize is particularly good and is now matched to the Scottish Curriculum as follows:

PE is on Mondays and Wednesdays. Please remember to remove jewellery on these days!

Please look out for regular website updates in order to see what we have been doing.

Thank you for your continued support.

I am really looking forward to a great year with Primary 6!
