Every year we have a curriculum evening for parents to come along and learn more about the nursery and the learning experiences that we offer to the children.
We offer parents the opportunity to walk round our market place showing details about home link learning with credit union, curriculum linked travelling teds, toy lending library, music machine, forest schools and our floor books are out on display.
Following this there was an introduction into Primary 1 by the Depute Head teacher as well as an information session about how we plan children’s experiences though the pre-birth to 3 curriculum looking at schemas and heuristic play.
Our nursery teachers took the parents through the nursery planning process before hearing about how we use Makaton to help communicate and extend children literacy skills. We also discussed GIRFEC and how the child is at the centre of everything we do.
The parents were given a brief breakdown of the nursery improvement plan areas for development and introduced to e-journals which record children’s experiences and tracks their learning and development. Within the workshop it also included information about circle time and stranger danger.
Forest schools is a new development within the nursery and parents were able to hear about the experiences and benefits of providing the children with the chance to get back to nature and enjoy outdoor play.
